Access Point – Brief definition

An access point can be set up to create an additional WiFi access point in the house. This can be done traditionally with a device connected to the router via Ethernet or, more modernly and efficiently, through the electrical wiring of the house.

If you have set up a router but the WiFi does not reach throughout your living space, you can implement a technical solution. Setting up a WiFi access point is a suitable option.

What is an access point?

An Access Point (AP) is a device that can send and receive data, serving as a gateway to the internet. Through an Ethernet cable connection to the router, the access point receives data and transmits it via a separate WiFi  to connected devices.

A network environment can be easily and widely extended. Therefore, even devices located far from the router have a good WiFi connection.

Access Points: particularly inconspicuous via the power line

If you want to use an access point but don’t want to deal with the hassle of wiring in your house, you can turn to Magic Powerline products from devolo. These devices discreetly transport the internet signal from the router to the access point over the power line.

Our tip: This works particularly efficiently with access points that master Band Steering. Compatible devices from devolo coordinate with each other to determine which WiFi access point offers the best connection for connected devices at any given time.
