The devolo WiFi 7 BE6500 Router is a so-called Ethernet router and must be operated behind an existing modem. Therefore, the devolo WiFi 7 BE6500 Router is primarily intended for fiber optic connections, where it is connected to the existing modem or ONT via an Ethernet cable. The devolo WiFi 7 BE6500 Router can also be used with cable connections if a modem is present. Since most DSL or VDSL connections no longer use a separate modem but instead employ a router-modem combination device, the devolo WiFi 7 BE6500 Router cannot replace the existing router in this case.

WiFi 7, or WiFi BE, is the latest wireless standard and offers significantly higher speeds, lower latency, and better utilization through features like Multi-Link Operation (MLO) and 320 MHz channels. It is faster and more stable than WiFi 6.
