The nightmare: A break-in while you are on the road!

Think burglars invade only when it's dark outside? Unfortunately, this is a persistent myth. Most break-ins take place between noon and 2 p.m. as well as between 4 and 6 p.m. During these times, most people aren't at home, making it easy picking for thieves.

These are the specific time windows when many residents are going about their everyday lives outside the house. No one is home. Whether you are at work, on the road with your children or enjoying your hobbies, you should be able to do all of these things with the knowledge that your home is secure. Vacation time is also an extremely popular time for break-ins, because you are away from home for days at a time. This gives burglars an even bigger time window. This is precisely why even small measures to scare off thieves are worthwhile.

Smoke detectors save lives!

This might sound overly dramatic at first. But the vast importance of smoke detectors for safety at home becomes clear immediately once you consider the fact that you only have a few minutes before the gases from smoke cause severe harm to your health or even death from asphyxiation if your house or flat catches fire.

Fire hazards from defective electric appliances and installations are often underestimated. Electrical fires are particularly hazardous because the smouldering fire often goes unnoticed. Of the many possibilities, power strips have historically proven to be a major hazard source.

Heavy rain can affect anybody

Although our planet as well as our own bodies consist largely of water, water can pose a threat to us. In Germany alone, 3,500 cases of water damage occur every day. That is one case of damage to household furnishings and buildings every 25 seconds.

The types of damage in our own homes are many and varied. Furniture gets ruined, precious items of sentimental value are destroyed, and the building structure itself can suffer damage. Any number of factors can act as the source, ranging from an exploded heating pipe to an incorrectly connected washing machine to heavy rain or many other possibilities. Statistics claim that only one-third of the population is concerned about water damage or other damage caused when they are not at home. High water from floods usually affects only areas near shorelines or riverbanks. Severe precipitation, on the other hand, can happen anywhere—sometimes with disastrous consequences.
