Fast Roaming – Brief definition

In home networks with multiple access points, Fast Roaming enables quick, seamless transitions for WiFi clients from one access point to another. This allows users to benefit from the strongest WiFi signal – without annoying interruptions during the signal switch.

If a home network has multiple Access Points, WiFi devices need to decide which connection to use. During the so-called handover (switching of the access point), there may be a brief interruption in the connection. This is where Fast Roaming comes into play.

What is Fast Roaming?

Fast Roaming enables fast, seamless transitions of WiFi clients from one access point to another. By caching certain authentication data, it accelerates the login process when switching between access points and minimizes disruptions in data traffic.

End devices and home network users consistently benefit from the strongest WiFi signal available – without annoying interruptions, for example during VoIP (Voice over IP, Internet telephony) or streaming while changing locations in the home network.
