devolo presents powerline solutions for energy providers and electrical trades at Light & Building

devolo

Aachen, Germany-based devolo AG, the global market leader in powerline-based network solutions, is presenting its dLAN innovations at Frankfurt‘s "World‘s leading trade fair for architecture and technology", Light & Building 2010. At Stand C56 in Hall 9, the company presents a powerline-based AMR solution as a highly innovative approach to remote reading of electrical, gas and water meters. For the electrical trades, devolo shows its new dLAN products for commercial use. Of particular interest is the dLAN TV Sat 1300-HD: this new complete satellite TV solution uses the powerline instead of an antenna cable to transmit HD satellite television.

devolo, the technological leader in the powerline market, will showcase its dLAN solutions at the Frankfurt Light & Building trade fair. The "World‘s leading trade fair for architecture and technology" will be held from 11 to 16 April at the Messe Frankfurt fairgrounds. In past years, the fair has been a successful presentation space for the devolo powerline products in commercial use. Specifically matched to the various target groups of the trade fair, the Aachen-based company is presenting innovative solutions in the area of remote reading of electrical, gas and water meters – also known as AMR (Automatic Meter Reading) or smart metering – one of the key technologies for the power industry. The latest dLAN products for the electrical trades and private users are also on display at the trade fair. These include the dLAN TV Sat 1300-HD dLAN solution, which allows you to transmit satellite television in HD quality over the powerline instead of antenna cables.

dLAN for the power industry: Turnkey in-house solution for Automatic Meter Reading and Smart Grid

One of the greatest challenges the power industry will face in coming years is the range of issues related to remote reading, also known as Smart Metering or Automatic Meter Reading. By 1 January 2010, newly constructed and completely renovated households must be equipped with electronic meters for electricity and gas. In addition, EC Directive 2002/91/EC requires that all other customers be offered the option of electronic meter reading recording. With the dLAN technology, devolo offers an ideal basis for implementing AMR solutions efficiently at the end consumer‘s location. Energy providers can connect the individual electronic measurement devices in a building via dLAN, then bundle and send the data to their data processing centres. This also makes comprehensive Smart Grid solutions possible that enable all-encompassing organisation of power grids, from generation to distribution to individual control. Because dLAN uses the in-house powerline for networking, no complex installation for each building is required – dLAN can be installed simultaneously with the new meters in almost no time.

dLAN for electrical trades and private users: satellite TV via the powerline and innovative powerline adapters

With the dLAN TV Sat 1300-HD, devolo has introduced an innovative solution for easily distributing satellite TV signals which does not require a classic coaxial line for transmission. An HDMI interface and digital output ensure the best transmission to the TV device and surround sound system. Yet, the dLAN® TV Sat 1300 HD is not just a DVB-S2 set-top box of the latest generation: It is also an EPG-supported video recorder. Consumers can easily use USB mass storage devices such as hard drives or memory sticks as storage media.

In addition, devolo is highlighting its current dLAN adapter portfolio at the Light & Building: With its dLAN 200 AVsmart+, the company is presenting at the fair in Frankfurt the first powerline adapter in the world with a "dLAN screen", an innovative LC status display for extreme simplification of network installation and monitoring. Via its integrated screen, the dLAN 200 AVsmart+ offers comprehensive monitoring functions such as the display of the connection quality to other adapters in the powerline network. The dLAN 200 AV USB Extender is a clever dLAN addition, since the adapter features a USB port instead of an Ethernet interface. This way, USB devices such as printers, hard drives or webcams can easily be integrated into a dLAN home network. The dLAN 200 AV Wireless N completes devolo‘s dLAN 200 AV portfolio. The compact dLAN adapter is equipped with internal WLAN antennas and enables consumers to set up WLAN zones quickly and easily for wireless surfing in the dLAN network. In addition, the dLAN 200 AV Wireless N has three Ethernet sockets and thus is the ideal product for operating multiple network-compatible devices on one dLAN adapter.
