devolo Home Control offers "Excellent Protection." For the third time in a row, the best security test grade

"Are my data secure?" This is one of the most frequent questions asked on the topic of smart homes. Users want a smart home solution that provides greater comfort and convenience, helps to save energy and adds security to their homes. Also, data communication and the storage of personal data should comply with the highest security standards. Because of this, external IT security professionals regularly put devolo Home Control products through rigorous tests. AV-TEST, the leading European test lab, has taken another look at devolo Home Control. The result is clear: devolo Home Control is secure. It received the best grade, "Excellent Protection," for the third time in a row.

Secured against third-party access

Whether the use is personal or professional, every smartphone, PC or tablet user should be aware of the device‘s security settings. Integrating smart technology into your home means that an increasing number of household appliances such as radiator thermostats, hygrometers and sirens are connected to the Internet. This is why data security in the smart home must comply with the highest security standards. AV-TEST, the leading European IT security lab, has already tested devolo Home Control three times and Home Control has once again been awarded the best grade: "Excellent Protection." The security engineers of AV-TEST ran extensive tests to find out whether Home Control is protected against potential third-party access. They noted that both the data communication of the Home Control app and the communication of the Home Control Central Unit with the web portal are secure. Maik Morgenstern, CTO AV-TEST, summarises the result of the tests by saying, "For the third time in a row, devolo Home Control has proven itself in our comprehensive certification tests to be a well-conceived smart home central unit. Efforts were made from the very beginning to implement necessary and practical security features in this unit. Thus, we certify the security of devolo Home Control once again and award it with the AV-TEST certificate for a "Certified smart home product."

devolo Home Control: the secure smart home

As early as the development stages of Home Control, there was a heavy focus on data security. The Z-Wave wireless standard forms the foundation of the security, since the devolo Home Control Central Unit only "talks" to components that have exchanged a unique security ID with the central unit. Additionally, communication from the devolo Home Control Central Unit to the mydevolo cloud is encrypted. The devolo cloud servers are also located in Germany and are thus subject to the rigorous German directives concerning data privacy and data security. These and other security functions underscore the benefits of more than fifteen years of experience in network technology and encryption methods at the Aachen-based manufacturer. Today, more than 45% of the employees at the corporate headquarters in Aachen are active in the research unit, working on the continued improvement of secure home networking.
